SERVICE BREAKDOWN
Fire Retardant Treatment
BedRock employs the vacuum impregnation method for fire retardant treatment, which gives superior penetration into the wood fibre than dipping, using MAP14, an organic compound used in agricultural fertilisers. This method routinely returns heat reduction test results in the range of 60 – 80%.
Quality Assurance Testing
BedRock conducts quarterly QA testing on all products supplied to its customers, as is required by the Mine Health and Safety Act. These tests are typically conducted as static laboratory testing. BedRock employs the services of Groundwork Consulting, a respected mining consulting company that has been instrumental in formulating the guidelines for QA testing on mine support products, using Groundwork’s calibrated laboratory equipment.
In addition, for customers that require fire retardant treated timber, BedRock also conducts routine fire-retardant testing at a reputable testing laboratory, in the form of small-scale burn tests with treated timber and a control, with the purpose of establishing the heat reduction provided by treatment. BedRock can conduct large-scale burn tests on special request.
Shaft stock management
Managing timber support stock level on the shaft is challenging: ensuring that there is sufficient stock to mine, but also not overstocking and risking stock losses due to the perishable nature of timber. BedRock takes this burden off its customers and actively manages the stock on mine shafts, with regular observations and monitoring of consumption. The customer need only submit an order, and BedRock does the rest.
Product Preparation
Each customer’s operation is different. BedRock can cater to almost any need with respect to bundling and other accessories needed to prepare the product for mine use before delivery. Bundling involves stacking elongate support products (e.g. mine poles, pencil props) into a uniform bundle of 25 or 30 units and then strapping them all together securely. BedRock can also attach any handle straps as required by the mine, as well as pre-attaching the mine’s standard issue pre-stressing device.
