On the 17th of December 2012, BedRock hosted a watering point in the Sabie Experience 2012 mountain bike race. BedRock was asked to sponsor and man a water point. Each water point was paired with a charity where if an amount of R1000 was sponsored by them a total amount of R2500 was then given to a local Sabie charity by the Sabie Experience fund. BedRock saw the opportunity to be involved in the race as well as a chance to give something back to the local community.
The Sabie Experience- external link takes place in the heart of Mpumalanga, the Sabie mountains and comprises of 2 different mountain bike races. The Sabie Experience is a annual event in the mountain biking fraternity and has been for the last few years. The event comprises of the Sabie Lite race and the Sabie Solo Experience. The Lite is a two day event where beginner to intermediate riders can take part in a race covering 80kms either as a solo rider or in teams of 2. The Solo is a 4 day race where your advanced riders cover 196km over the 4 days with gruelling climbs, long distances and some technical single track sections within the Sabie Mountains.
The event attracts around 1000 riders due to its scenic terrain and challenging weather conditions. The Sabie Experience is regarded as one of the toughest and most spectacular stage races in South Africa and attracts many riders from all parts of the globe.
Bedrock employees manned the watering point on the Contour Road Ceylon on one of the steep climbs in the race. Branding was visible on the day for riders to identify the water point with refreshments and nutrition available. These were provided by the race organisers for the water point on the day. Riders were eagerly greeted and handed a combination of Coke and Powerade with a snack bar or banana to refresh their thirst or appetite and for some a chance to rest and take a breather after a tough climb.
BedRock was proud to be associated with the Sabie Experience and the local charities that benefited from the race. BedRock will continue to support and take part in manning the water points in the various MTB races in Sabie.
